Step 3: Connect Hardware

Step 3: Connect Your Hardware

This is the fun part -- plugging everything together.

Insert the SD card into the Pi

The microSD slot is on the underside of the Pi Zero 2 W, opposite the USB ports. Gently slide the card in until it clicks.

Connect your Qwiic modules

Use the small 4-pin Qwiic cables to connect your sensors and actuators. Each module has two Qwiic ports, so you can daisy-chain them like a little train:

Just click each cable into place -- you'll feel a small snap.

The order doesn't matter. You can chain modules in any order. The Pi automatically detects all of them regardless of position. You can connect up to 8 modules in a chain.

Plug in the power cable (last!)

Connect the USB-C power cable to the Pi. Do this last -- plugging in power starts the boot process.

💡

Use a proper USB-C charger (5V, 2.5A). A phone charger usually works. Don't power the Pi from a laptop USB port -- it usually can't supply enough current.

After this step: The Pi is powered on. You should see the small green LED on the board light up.
